THE HORIZON CHILDREN
Deny, ignore or downplay as people are wont to do, but the best of environmental science says the consequences of deteriorating human habitat will fall heavily on today’s children and the children they will bear. And there’s not time for the victims to grow up and save themselves from ecological ruin. The “last environmental saviors”— adults of the day, young and old–must do it for them.
[Ho ri’ zon] n. Demographically, today’s children have just appeared on humanity’s horizon. The children they will bear are not yet visible. A fair extrapolation of the latest environmental science says these children as adults will inherit a world dramatically diminished from anything the human species has ever known.
The Horizon Children is written by John Thompson. He wrote the book on “environmental enterprise” in 1992 with The Environmental Entrepreneur; Where to Find the Profit in Saving the Earth (Longstreet Press). As a commercial freelance writer, John wrote a million words for scores of clients including IBM, Coca-Cola USA, Southern Company, Georgia Power Co., AFLAC, Equifax, Randstad North America and Parents, Time, and Money magazines.
The Horizon Children is the MESSAGE behind a movement. We are the PEOPLE. Together we aim to become smart, responsible consumers who use our collective purchasing power to promote competition in the marketplace for green businesses, products and services and in-so-doing buy our way out of ecological ruin. If you are interested in helping us build a green consumer revolution, there are many ways to get involved such as assisting with marketing, social media, research, writing original content, producing a podcast, promotions and more.
